SembCorp Ind - 14 Oct 2026

Sembcorp Industries Ltd. (SGX: U96) — Daily Chart

Last close: S$6.04
Current regime: Neutral-to-bullish transition inside a broader trading range

1. Market structure

The dominant structure since the S$7.20 April peak has been corrective. Price formed successive major lower highs at approximately S$6.46 → S$6.56 → S$6.22, while the July sell-off reached S$5.22.

The important change occurred after S$5.22:

  • S$5.22 → strong recovery.
  • First reaction low around S$5.50.
  • Rally extended to S$6.10, then S$6.22.
  • Subsequent decline stopped at S$5.74, well above S$5.22.

That creates a meaningful higher-low structure on the intermediate timeframe.

However, U96 has not yet established an intermediate uptrend, because buyers have not broken the September swing high at S$6.22.

The market is therefore best described as:

Recovery structure inside a S$5.74–S$6.22 trading range, with early evidence that buyers are trying to regain control.

2. Recent bar-by-bar reading

The most interesting information is in the final several sessions.

Decline into S$5.74

From the S$6.22 September high, price drifted downward rather than collapsing.

Several things stand out:

  • Bar ranges generally became smaller.
  • Volume remained relatively subdued.
  • Downward progress became increasingly difficult around S$5.80–5.75.
  • The final low at S$5.74 only marginally extended the decline.

This is shortening of downward thrust.

Selling was still dominant directionally, but sellers were obtaining progressively less reward from their effort.

That is the first constructive signal.

Stabilisation around S$5.80–5.90

After S$5.74, price did not immediately launch upward. Instead it spent several sessions oscillating around S$5.80–5.90.

This matters.

Had sellers retained strong control, the market had an excellent opportunity to continue below S$5.74. It did not.

The inability to extend the decline suggests supply was being absorbed or drying up.

The structure therefore shifted from:

decline → loss of downside momentum → equilibrium

rather than immediately from bearish to bullish.

First strong upside expansion

Near the right edge of the chart, a relatively wide green bar lifted price sharply from the lower portion of the range toward S$6.00.

Compared with the preceding small overlapping bars, this represents a clear change in behaviour:

  • greater upward range,
  • better upward progress,
  • close toward the upper part of the bar,
  • expansion from a compressed area.

This is the strongest evidence that demand has returned.

Importantly, it occurred after sellers had repeatedly failed around S$5.75–5.85.

Pullback immediately afterward

The following reaction was relatively contained.

That matters because after a sudden expansion upward, the critical question is:

Can sellers erase the breakout bar?

So far, they have not.

Instead, price remained close to S$6.00.

That implies the first impulse was not immediately rejected.

Latest two bars

The penultimate session appears to have driven above S$6.10 toward roughly S$6.15, but encountered supply.

Today's bar:

O 6.10 / H 6.17 / L 6.01 / C 6.04

is therefore important.

Its message is mixed:

  • Buyers pushed price as high as S$6.17.
  • They could not hold those gains.
  • The close at S$6.04 sits in the lower portion of the range.
  • Price is approaching the important S$6.10–6.22 supply zone.

So today's candle is not confirmation of a breakout.

It says supply has appeared.

But equally important, the bar has not invalidated the recent bullish change of behaviour because price remains above the recent S$5.80–5.90 base.

This is therefore a warning bar, not yet a reversal signal.

3. Volume / effort-versus-result

The volume picture strengthens the interpretation.

July decline

The breakdown from the June S$6.56 high toward S$5.22 occurred with substantial volume expansion.

That represented genuine selling pressure.

August recovery

The recovery from S$5.22 showed clear upside displacement. Buyers were able to move price rapidly through S$5.50 and eventually toward S$6.10.

September anomaly

There is an exceptionally large volume spike around the S$5.83 reaction, yet price did not subsequently collapse.

That is notable.

Very large effort accompanied by limited lasting downside progress is consistent with absorption rather than straightforward bearish continuation.

It becomes more meaningful because subsequent selling eventually produced only S$5.74 before buyers returned.

Current advance

Recent upside volume is improving but is not yet climactic or decisive.

Therefore the evidence says:

buyers are improving, but they have not yet demonstrated overwhelming control.

4. Critical price zones

ZoneSignificance
S$6.22Major confirmation level; September swing high
S$6.10–6.17Immediate supply / current battleground
S$6.00–6.03Near-term pivot
S$5.83–5.90Important demand / recent accumulation area
S$5.74Structural higher low
S$5.50Secondary major support
S$5.22Major July swing low

The most important point is that S$6.22 is much more significant than S$6.10.

A move through S$6.10 alone does not materially change the larger structure.

A convincing break of S$6.22 would.

5. Bullish scenario

The constructive interpretation is that the S$5.74 low was a successful test of the lower portion of the August–September structure, followed by renewed demand.

For this scenario to strengthen:

First confirmation: price should hold approximately S$5.95–6.00 during the next reaction.

Then buyers need to overcome:

S$6.17 → S$6.22.

The highest-quality breakout would show:

  • widening daily spread,
  • close near the high,
  • increased volume,
  • and importantly, follow-through during subsequent sessions.

Above S$6.22, the sequence would become:

S$5.22 → S$5.74 higher low → break S$6.22

which constitutes a much clearer bullish structural reversal.

The next obvious resistance zones would then be approximately:

S$6.38–6.46, followed by S$6.56.

6. Bearish scenario

Today's rejection around S$6.17 cannot simply be ignored.

A bearish sequence would begin if today's upper rejection is followed by:

  1. another weak close,
  2. loss of S$6.00, and
  3. accelerating downside range.

That would indicate the recent rally was another failed attempt against the upper part of the trading range.

The decisive deterioration would occur below:

S$5.83–5.74.

A daily break beneath S$5.74 with expanding range and volume would destroy the higher-low thesis and reopen:

S$5.50, and potentially S$5.22.

7. Most likely near-term interpretation

At S$6.04, U96 sits almost exactly between confirmation and failure.

I would therefore not call this a breakout yet.

The most important development on this chart is actually underneath price:

Sellers repeatedly attempted to push U96 lower from September into October, but downward progress contracted and S$5.74 held above the July S$5.22 low.

That gave buyers the opportunity for the recent expansion.

Now the burden shifts to them.

Today's rejection at S$6.17 shows they have reached meaningful supply.

Bias

Short term: Neutral-bullish
Intermediate structure: Neutral/ranging
Bullish confirmation: > S$6.22
Initial warning: < S$5.95
Bullish thesis invalidation: < S$5.74

The S$6.10–6.22 area is presently the decisive battlefield. A clean expansion through S$6.22 would materially improve the chart; repeated rejection here followed by loss of S$5.95 would instead suggest that U96 remains trapped in its broader range.
